They then merged into the massive march as one huge procession. Unions led the marchers down Broadway from 9th Street to the main stage at Temple.
"The passage of SB 1070 in Arizona illustrates precisely why we need comprehensive federal immigration reform this year. We are in a crisis when states are left to enact fundamentally unconstitutional, anti-immigrant, and anti-American laws. L.A. Labor is demanding that Washington cease their unwillingness and inability to act on our national broken system," said Maria Elena Durazo.

"This year Los Angeles unions will be participating in greater numbers than we have ever seen. Labor is united for comprehensive immigration reform, good jobs, and workers' rights. We are also celebrating our immigrant communities in Los Angeles and the significant contributions they make to our city everyday," Durazo added.
The May Day activities in Los Angeles were coordinated by five coalitions made up of more than 150 diverse organizations, individuals and groups.
