LOS ANGELES, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Los Angeles on Saturday in a march and rally to protest against a new immigration law in the U.S. state of Arizona.
The number of protesters -- estimated at up to 100,000 -- was the largest in the city since 2006 when half a million people turned out for a rally against a proposed federal crackdown on illegal immigration, according to police sources.
On Saturday, Cuban-born pop singer Gloria Estefan joined other Hispanic activists in leading off the march and rally in Los Angeles, demanding reform of the immigration legislation.

"We're good people," shouted Grammy-winning Gloria aboard a flatbed truck. "We've given a lot to this country. This country has given a lot to us."
Nativo Lopez, president of the Mexican American Political Association, said the Arizona law "only gives working people, immigrants, youth, women, trade unionists and their sympathizers more reason to march."
Tens of thousands of protesters packed the streets in downtown Los Angeles and chanted "Si, se puede" in Spanish ("Yes, we can").
