PHNOM PENH, June 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and four others injured in a car crash in Southwestern Cambodia's Kampong Speu province on Saturday evening, a senior police official said.
The tragic accident occurred on National Road No. 4 when a speedy Highlander overtook a car and crashed into a tourist mini-bus, and then continued to hit another cargo truck before bursting into flames, said Tab Lon, deputy police chief of Kampong Speu province.
"Ten people, five in the Highlander and five others in the tourist van, were confirmed dead in the crash, as four others got injured," he told Xinhua via telephone.
He said the dead persons' identities were unknown yet as some bodies were badly burned.
Death toll from road traffic accidents remains high in Cambodia. In 2018, a total of 1,761 people were killed and 4,771 others injured in road crashes across the country, according to a government report.
