UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Thursday condemned the "heinous and cowardly terrorist attack" in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province that killed 27 and wounded 13 others.
In a statement, the members of the council expressed their sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Iranian government and wished a speedy and full recovery to the injured.
The council members reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
They underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of terrorism acts accountable and bring them to justice, and urged all states to cooperate with the Iranian government and all other relevant authorities in this regard.
"Any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed," they said, reaffirming the need for all states to combat threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
A suicide terrorist attack targeted the personnel of the Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Sistan and Baluchestan Province on Wednesday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Thursday the perpetrators of the attack should await the revenge.
The Jaish al-Adl Sunni rebel group, which is based in Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
