MOSCOW, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Romanian senior diplomat was detained in Moscow by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) for alleged spying, RIA Novosti news agency reported on Monday.
The first secretary of the Romanian embassy's political department, Gabriel Grecu was arrested while he was receiving a classified military information from a Russian citizen, the report said.
The FSB said Grecu was a professional intelligence officer working for the Romanian External Information Service.
He was in possession of spy equipment, which proved that his activity was against the Russian Federation, the FSB said.
"Spy gear items seized from the agent fully reveal his hostile activity against Russia," the FSB was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying.
An inquiry into the incident was underway, the FSB said.
