英语文摘:Myanmar election commission publishes election final results

According to party sources, the USDP fielded 1,100 candidates, NUP 975, NDF 160 and Shan Nationals Democratic Party (SNDP) 157 for contesting a total of over 1,100 parliamentary seats at all levels in the election.

In addition to the elected parliament representatives through the general election, there reserves an equal number of one-third of the total number of parliamentary seats at each level by representatives from the military personnel nominated by the commander-in-chief of the defense services.

The USDP, claimed as having a membership of 16 million to 18 million, was transformed from the previous Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA) operating under the name of a social organizations which came into being in 1993, while the NUP is a party reorganized from the previous government's dissolved single ruling Myanmar Socialist Program Party and the NDF is a break-away party from the disbanded National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

In the Nov. 7 general election, a total of 29 million people across the nation were set as eligible to cast ballots with the number of turnout being unknown.

Nationally, a total of over 3,000 parliamentary candidates from 37 political parties including 82 independents took part in the competition across the country's seven regions and seven ethnic states.
