Other initiatives agreed include a joint expeditionary force, centered around two brigades of infantry from both nations and including equipment from all French and British armed services, available for what the communique released after the treaty signing described as "bilateral, NATO, European Union, United Nations, or other operations".

Both nations aimed to save money through greater cooperation on air-to-air refueling, airborne logistical transport planes, nuclear-powered submarine research, and satellite communications.

They also agreed to jointly develop a new generation of unmanned military aircraft, as well as to seek "savings of up to 30 percent" in a 10-year plan to increase cooperation in and rationalize aspects of British and French conventional weapons development.

The two nations agreed to cooperate more fully on cyber- security and combating international terrorism. Asked about fighting terrorists, Sarkozy said "Our vigilance is total, we are working with allies on an hour-by-hour basis."

Cameron said that the two nation's openness and interconnectedness were the sources "of strength, solidarity, and power which will result in the defeat of terrorism".
