CARACAS, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Thursday his government is ready to resume the diplomatic relations with Colombia.

He will go to Colombia Friday for a meeting with outgoing Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and President-elect Juan Manuel Santos, who will take office on Saturday.
On July 22, Chavez broke off ties with Colombia after Bogota accused Caracas of harboring Colombian guerilla chiefs in its territory. Security has been beefed up on both sides of the Venezuela-Colombia border.
