TOKYO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Toyota Motor Corporation's hybrid Prius model was Japan's number one selling car in April, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) said in a report on Tuesday.
According to JADA, Toyota Motor Corp. sold 26,482 units of its Prius model in Japan and the waiting list for the vehicle is currently six months, such is its popularity.
However the Prius, powered by a combination of an electric motor and gasoline engine during peak power demand and utilizing a regenerative braking system, has been the center of a more than 8 million global vehicle recall by the automaker due to gas pedal defects, a faulty floormat and a braking software glitch.
