The Security Council Chamber, which witnessed open Council meetings during the past decades, was furnished by Norway in 1952 and designed by leading Norwegian architect Arnstein Arnebeg, a gift from their government.
A large mural by Per Krohg of Norway covers most of the east wall in the chamber that symbolizes the promise of future peace and individual freedom.

According to the Office of the Capital Master Plan, which is managing the historic renovation of the UN Headquarters complex, more than 5,100 UN Headquarters occupants have moved to swing spaces around New York.
The last meeting held on Wednesday in the chamber hosted a briefing of the 15-nation Council by UN Secretary-general Ban Ki- moon on his recent trip to the Middle East.
