NEW DELHI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- India's premier National Investigation Team (NIA) is preparing to quiz Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative David Coleman Headley, a U.S. citizen who last week admitted to plotting the 2008 terror attack in Mumbai, said highly placed government sources on Monday.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram is likely to take a decision on the members of the team very soon, said the sources.

Sources in the Home Ministry have revealed that the team is likely to be announced on March 26.

The NIA has registered a case against Headley but has not formally charged him in a court or started a judicial process against him.

Also NIA has been asked by the Home Ministry to initiate the process and file charges against Headley.

Last week, Headley entered into a plea bargain with prosecutors in the U.S., according to which he will be spared the death sentence and extradition to India or Denmark, where he is also alleged to have schemed terror attacks.

Besides India, Pakistan and Denmark have asked the U.S. for access to Headley.

According to the sources, the U.S. Department of Justice has asked India to be ready with its team. The Home Ministry has said it will be ready with the team within a day or two.
