ABU DHABI, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Eleven Europeans are suspected to have been involved in the killing of Mahmoud Al Mabhouh, a top official of Hamas military wing the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, Dubai police Chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim said Monday.
The suspects include six Britons, one French, one German and three Irish nationals, including a woman, Dubai-based daily Gulf News quoted Tamim as saying on its website.
"They came to Dubai from a European country and they left to different European countries" following the crime, he told reporters, saying arrest warrants for the suspects have been sent to the Interpol.
Tamim showed reporters the footage showing the suspects' movements at the crime scene, according to the newspaper.
He also said two Palestinians were arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in connection to the crime, adding that both are residents of the Gulf nation and one of them had met Al Mabhouh at the airport.
Al Mabhouh had met with members of his group and bought a pair of shoes after arriving in Dubai, the police chief said.
Al Mabhouh, 50, was born in the Gaza Strip but has been living in Syria since 1989. He was found dead in his hotel room on Jan. 20, one day after he arrived in Dubai.
The Hamas official was wanted by the Israeli government in connection with the kidnappings of two Israeli soldiers in 1989. Hamas has accused Mossad, Israel's secret agency responsible for foreign intelligence, of carrying out the assassination, but the Israeli government declined to comment on the claims.
