LAUSANNE, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) said on Friday that secretary general Andreas Zagklis has been appointed a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
FIBA president Hamane Niang noted that it is "very positive" to have representation on the commission, which was established to improve the organization of the Olympic Games and cooperation among the IOC, organizing committees for the Olympic Games, International Federations and the National Olympic Committees.
"The Olympic Games is certainly the highlight of the global sporting calendar, inspiring millions of people all over the world. Basketball has always been extremely popular at the Olympics, and it will be even more in the future with 3x3 on the program," Niang said.
In addition, FIBA Executive Committee member Richard Carrion, who is also chairman of the board for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, will continue as chair of the Olympic Channel Commission.
