ENTEBBE, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Uganda picked up their first win at the women's beach volleyball 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifier/Continental Cup Group D on Wednesday.
After losing to Mozambique on Tuesday at the White Sand Beach, Entebbe, Uganda made sure of their victories over the two teams of Zimbabwe, both coming back from one set down.
Uganda's Team 1 beat Zimbabwe's Team 1 21-23, 21-11, 15-6, before they overcame Zimbabwe Team 2 21-15, 20-22, 15-10.
"We are happy that we got a win today and need to work hard in the remaining games on Thursday," said Uganda's coach Sam Meya.
In the other games played on Wednesday, Egypt's Team 2 overpowered Guinea Team 1 17-21, 21-16, 15-13, and the Egyptian Team 1 beat Guinea Team 2 21-8, 21-12.
The qualifiers, which have attracted Uganda, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Guinea and Egypt, will climax on Thursday with the best two teams qualifying for the next round of the qualifiers.
