LA PAZ, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Eduardo Villegas has been sacked as manager of Bolivia's national team following a poor showing at the Copa America, the country's football association said on Thursday.
"It has been deemed appropriate to terminate the contract with Eduardo Villegas and his coaching staff," national team coordinator Antonio Decormis told a news conference.
The announcement came less than two months after Bolivia's group-stage elimination from the Copa America in Brazil. The Verde lost each of their three matches in the tournament - against Brazil, Peru and Venezuela - scoring just two goals and conceding nine.
Villegas, who took charge in February after the dismissal of Venezuelan Cesar Farias, led Bolivia to one draw and six losses from his seven matches in charge.
Decormis said the Bolivian Football Federation had yet to decide on a replacement for Villegas.
