SAN JUAN DE MARCONA, Peru, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- France's 13-time winner Stephane Peterhansel recorded his second stage win of this year's Dakar Rally as Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah extended his overall lead on Monday.
Peterhansel finished the 323km timed section in four hours and one second, four and a half minutes ahead of Mini teammate Nani Roma.
Roma's fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz was third, more than nine minutes off the pace.
Al-Attiyah, fourth in Monday's stage, extended his race lead to 29 minutes and 16 seconds after Sebastien Loeb, who was second overnight, encountered difficulties in the loop around San Juan de Marcona in southern Peru.
Nine-time world rally champion Loeb was 11th fastest on the day, more than 28 minutes behind Peterhansel.
Meanwhile, Britain's Sam Sunderland won the bike stage on his Red Bull KTM by finishing almost two minutes ahead of Chile's Honda rider Jose Cornejo.
American Ricky Brabec, who leads the overall two-wheel standings, was third on his Honda, six and a half minutes shy of Sunderland.
