BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The first leg of the Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate was postponed on Saturday because of torrential rain, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said.
The game was shifted to 4 p.m. local time on Sunday after a heavy storm lashed Buenos Aires and left large sections of Boca's Bombonera stadium pitch under water.
"For reasons beyond our control, the game has been suspended until tomorrow," CONMEBOL said in a brief statement.
The showdown marks the first time that Argentina's famous rivals will meet in the final of South American football's top club competition.
The decisive second leg will be played on November 24 at River's Monumental stadium.
Boca are aiming for their seventh Copa Libertadores title while River are hoping to be champions for the fourth time.
The winners will earn the right to contest in next month's FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
