BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Boca Juniors began their quest to become the first three-time champions in Argentinian soccer history with a 1-0 victory over Talleres de Cordoba on Sunday.
Kicking off the Argentinian Superliga at their home stadium in Buenos Aires, "Los Xeneizes" began the match with ex-Shanghai Shenhua, Manchester United and Juventus veteran Carlos Tevez.
The striker would have hoped for a better start to the season as he missed a penalty kick at the beginning of the second half.
Boca Junior's only goal came on nine minutes through Cristian Pavon, who represented Argentina at this year's World Cup, scoring against his former club with the help of a deflection.
The Buenos Aires-based team will now travel to Spain to play La Liga champions Barcelona in the traditional friendly Joan Gamper Trophy.
Along with reaching the record-breaking three-time Superliga title, Boca Juniors will also be aiming to win the Copa Libertadores de America, South America's most prestigious club competition.
The Argentinian team last won the competition in 2007.
