BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Organizers of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics said on Tuesday that seven new events approved for the Games will be accommodated in existing venues and no new venues will be necessary.
The new events feature the additions of the monobob and freestyle ski big air, as well as dynamic mixed team formats including short track mixed relay, a ski jumping mixed team event, mixed gender team aerials and a snowboard cross mixed team event.
Tong Lixin, director of the Sports Department of Beijing Organizing Committee, is confident organizers will be able to handle the new events.
"The decision of the IOC follows the Olympic Charter, Olympic Agenda 2020 and New Norm with the focus on a youth-oriented program and gender balance. With no new venues needed for the new events, the current venues will be further used," Tong told Xinhua.
According to Tong, the Beijing Organizing Committee will spare no effort in delivering a "fantastic, extraordinary and excellent Winter Games under the guidance of the New Norm."
