BERLIN, Jun 3 (Xinhua) -- Schalke have extended the contracts with goalkeeper Ralf Faehrmann and defender Matija Nastasic, the "Royal Blues" confirmed via the club's website on Sunday.
Both players have penned long-term extensions at Schalke. Faehrmann extended his running contract, stipulated until 2020, for another two years to stay with Schalke until June 2022. Meanwhile, Serbian international Matija Nastasic inked a three-year extension to wear Schalke's jersey until 2022.
"Matija Nastasic is Mister Reliable for me. He is calm and a ball winner with an offensively minded drive. For Schalke and coach Domenico he is a very important player," Schalke's sporting director Christian Heidel said.
Nastasic joined the "Knappen" on January 2015 to make 63 appearances ever since. His teammate and goalkeeper Ralf Faehrmann plays since 2003 for Schalke and made 158 outings for the first team.
"13 games without conceding. Only Ralf has managed that for a Bundesliga goalkeeper last season. He wants to stay at Schalke until the end of his career," Heidel said.
Schalke completed the Bundesliga season 2017-2018 on the 2nd place to secure a berth in next season's UEFA Champions League group stage.?
