HONG KONG, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Paola Ogechi Egonu's game-high 13 points lifted Italy over China 3-1 in third-round action at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League here on Thursday.
Egonu's partnership with wing spiker Miryam Fatime Sylla who snatched 11 points of her own empowered Italy to a comprehensive victory by 25-18, 25-14, 16-25, 25-18.
Wing spiker Zhu Ting led China with eight points, while opposite spiker Yang Fangxu also made her presence felt with seven points.
Early on the day, Japan took their second win in Hong Kong by defeating Argentina 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21).
The Volleyball Nations League is a new idea from the FIVB, the sport's international governing body. The annual women's international volleyball tournament is contested by 16 national teams and replaces the World Grand Prix.
