BERLIN, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen's head coach Florian Kohfeldt has penned a contract extension ahead of schedule, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old coach has been rewarded for securing Bremen's top-flight status and leading the "Green-Whites" out of the relegation zone after taking over in October 2017.
"He has led the team out of a difficult situation with clear ideas and a recognizable philosophy. We are convinced that he and his coaching staff will continue on this positive path in the future," Bremen's CEO Frank Baumann told the club's official homepage.
Kohfeldt took the reins from Alexander Nouri at the end of Octorber 2017. Bremen was trapped in the Bundesliga bottom but Kohfeldt steered the club out of the drop zone and onto 12th position of the standings.
"I regard this decision as a high esteem to my entire coaching staff and I am pleased that we can continue to shape the future of Werder Bremen in the coming years," Kohfeldt said.
The "Green-Whites" kick off the 29th round in Bundesliga when they encounter newly promoted Hannover on Friday.
