SOFIA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bosnian qualifier Mirza Basic won the final of the ATP 250 DIEMA XTRA Sofia Open tournament here on Sunday after beating Marius Copil of Romania 7-6 (6), 6-7 (4), 6-4.
Basic lifted his first ATP title warmly applauded by some 10,000 spectators in Arena Armeec Hall.
Thanks to this success, the 26-year-old, who started the tournament as the No. 129 in the ATP rankings, will move to the 76th place in the world on Monday.
Meanwhile, he will pocket 89,435 euros (some 110,000 U.S. dollars) of prize money.
On the road to the glory since Feb. 4, Basic beat Alexandar Lazov of Bulgaria 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, and Tomislav Brkic of Bosnia and Herzegovina 7-5, 6-4 in the qualifying matches. Then, he defeated Florian Mayer of Germany 6-4, 6-1, the fourth seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 7-5, 7-6, Maximilian Marterer of Germany 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, and the top-seeded Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland 7-6, 6-4.
"I am living my dream," Basic said at the award ceremony. "Sofia will ever stay special to me," he said.
