HOHHOT, China, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Russia's Ivan Spitsyn and Natalia Belyaeva won their respective men's and women's speed events at the China leg of the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Cup here on Sunday.
Among the 80 participating climbers from 16 countries and regions, the Russian athletes made their clean-sweep of the medals from the two finals on Sunday.
In the men's field, Spitsyn timed in a winning total of 16.95 seconds to beat Maxim Vlasov in 18.09 seconds despite Vlasov made the stunning second climb of 8.02 seconds. Placed third was another Russian Anton Nemov.
In the women's group, Belyaeva claimed the gold medal in 23.24 seconds, recovering from a first climb deficit to defeat compatriot Ekaterina Koschceeva by 0.30 seconds in two rounds. Russia's Maria Tolokonina won the bronze medal in 24.42 seconds.
