BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- China's 18-year-old long jumper Shi Yuhao improved his own Asian junior record by one centimeter en route to winning at 8.31 meters at the 2017 Chinese Athletics Street Tour here on Sunday evening.
The Street Tour event in Beijing features eight jumpers including China's national record holder Li Jizhe who boasts a personal best of 8.47m. As the pre-race favorite, Li led the event after the first three jumps at 8.11m.
Huang Changzhou, third finisher at the 2016 World Indoor Championships, leaped over 8.26m to seize the leading position in the fourth and final round, bettering his outdoor personal best by 6cm. Shi then jumped 8.31m, a world leading U20 mark, to turn the tables.
Huang had to settle with the second place while Li took the bronze medal at 8.11m.
The previous Asian junior record of 8.30m was set by Shi last June at the Chinese Junior Athletics Championships. He has already met the entry standard for the IAAF World Championships in London in August.
