DUBAI, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttler Tian Houwei eliminated top seed Jan O Jorgensen from Denmark 21-17, 19-21, 21-13 in the Dubai World Superseries men's singles semifinals here on Saturday to set up the final clash with Viktor Axelsen, also from Denamrk, on Sunday.
Jorgensen, playing cool as always, gained upper hand at first, but a number of mistakes boosted Tian's confidence.
Tian focused more on improving his style by placing risky shots whereas the shuttlecock landed often in the corners, unreachable for Jorgensen.
The Dane looked increasingly puzzled about his stuttering performance. He challenged several decisions whereas he won a few and lost a few.
"It was a different kind of match, he changed the tactics and I couldn't cope up that well with the kind of things he came up with," said the 29-year-old Jorgensen.
"Sometimes he was playing a rallying style and then he changed to a very offensive style. That why I couldn't get any rhythm and made too many mistakes," he explained.
Tian said that on Friday he felt pain in his right shoulder, "but I am nevertheless fit for the final."
Viktor Axelsen, the runner-up of the Dubai World Superseries Finals 2015, beat South Korean Son Wan Ho 21-17, 21-19 in another semifinal.
In the men's doubles final, Malaysia's pair V Shem Goh/Wee Kiong Tan will meet Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda. Earlier in the day, the Malaysians beat China's Chai Biao/Hong Wei in the semifinals, while the Japanese defeated Danish duo Mads Conrad-Pet/Mads Piele Kolding.?
