BERLIN, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Alexander Meier has extended his contract at Eintracht Frankfurt, the Bundesliga club confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.
The top scorer of the Bundesliga season 2014-2015 has extended his current contract for another year to stay with the "Eagles" until June 2018.
"Alexander Meier has done great things here," Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Huebner said. "He plays an extremely important role within the team and for the fans. That Alexander stays here at least until 2018 is a great thing and an important sign for continuity and stability in the fast paced soccer business."
The 33 year old striker, who joined from Hamburg in 2004, provided overall 53 assists and 131 in 353 competitive outings for Frankfurt.
"As already announced, I have found my second home in Frankfurt as I feel very comfortable," Meier told the club's official homepage. "I am pleased that the club continues to trust in me. I feel good and want to play the next two year at the highest possible level, and help the team."
The "Eagles" open their Bundesliga season against Schalke on August 27.
