BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Liaoning, last season's finalists of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league, have been fined 100,000 yuan(about 16,000 U.S. dollars) for violent fan behavior, the CBA announced on Tuesday.
A 17-year-old boy surnamed Liu has been detained by police for throwing a water bottle from the spectator stands during last Friday's CBA match between Liaoning and Zhejiang.
Liaoning player Guo Ailun, a key member of the Chinese national team which won the Asian Championship this year, was hit by the bottle in the face and suffered a gashing cut below his left eye. Doctors say Guo will have to rest seven to 10 days before he can resume training.
The CBA league has been plagued by fan riots, trash-talking and fist-throwing on court in the recent years.
