FUZHOU, China, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese "genius shooter" Yang Haoran won the 50m rifle three positions with a new world junior record of 458.7 points, 0.5 points better than his previous record, at the first Chinese Youth Games here on Friday.
The 19-year-old world champion ranked second in the qualification stage before dominating the final. Shen Zhengyu finished runner-up with 7.5 points behind Yang.
"I am a little nervous from the qualification to the final," said Yang, the reigning Asian champion of the men's 10m air rifle. "I didn't expect a new record."
"I tried my best in the final and I was quite patient," he said. "I only managed a seventh finish in the 10m air rifle. Although, it didn't bring tense, but made me a little relaxed."
Yang, the winner of the 10m air rifle at the Youth Olympic Games and World Championships last year, stunned the audience on Wednesday when he failed to make the podium of the event.
Yang said after the games he will prepare for the Asian championships in November and hopes for a good performance there.
