DHAKA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi national cricket team player Shahadat Hossain, who has been temporarily suspended from cricket activities for allegedly torturing his housemaid, surrendered before a court in Bangladesh capital Dhaka Monday morning.
Meanwhile, he lodged a petition seeking bail in a case filed in this connection.
The court is slated to hear the petition later in the day.
Shahadat surrendered two days after police arrested his wife from a relative's house in connection with the case filed for torturing an about 11-year-old domestic help.
Hossian and his wife were on the run after being accused of torturing their minor housemaid since Sept. 6.
Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Jalal Yunus told reporters on Sept. 13 that "fast bowler Shahadat Hossain will remain suspended until the charges were settled."
