WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is expected to miss next season following a second surgery on his right foot.
His recovery should take five to eight months and the Sixers held him out for the entire season. Embiid had a bone graft Tuesday, with two existing screws replaced and a graft using bone from his hip.
The 21-year-old was the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He missed all of his rookie year after having surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot in June 2014.
How the 7-footer from Kansas re-injured his foot is unclear. The injury was discovered in June during a routine checkup in San Francisco which revealed that Embiid's foot was in worse condition than it had been in his previous evaluation.
