CARACAS, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela will host the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Boxing Championship from Aug. 17 to 22, with the participation of 130 boxers from 20 countries, local media reported Monday.
The event will be held at Jose Maria Vargas Bolivarian Dome in the northern state of Vargas, where boxers will compete in 10 categories with a five quota each to reach a total of 50 tickets for Doha World Championship, to be held from Oct. 8 to 17.
The Continental Championship will also allow the best boxers of the region to get tickets for Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
According to the schedule, on Monday and Tuesday, the preliminary fights will be held while from Aug. 19 to 20 the qualification stage to quarter finals will be held. On Aug. 21 semifinals will be held and finals will be on Aug. 22.
Boxers from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Saint Lucia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, U.S. Virgin Islands and Venezuela will participate in the event.
