GUANGZHOU, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Super League (CSL) side Guangzhou Evergrande striker Gao Lin was handed a five-match ban and fined 25,000 yuan (about 4,030 U.S. dollars) by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) on Friday.
According to a decision by CFA's Disciplinary Commission, the 29-year-old Chinese international was banned for "misconduct towards the football fans".
In the match between Guangzhou Evergrande and Liaoning Whowin on July 18, Gao Lin celebrated with face-slapping gestures towards football fans after his second goal in the 73rd minute.
After the match, he threw his shoes towards the football fan who insulted him.
It is reported that the club will appeal against Gao's punishment.
The Liaoning club's home area was critized for "loose management towards fans' uncivilized behaviors".
