GWANGJU, South Korea, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Six gold medals were split on the third swimming competition day at the 2015 Gwangju Summer University Games here on Monday.
Italy's Caramignoli Martina Rita took the first gold medal in the pool after winning the women's 1500 meter freestyle in 16 minutes and 6.71 seconds, followed by Vrooman Lindsay of the United States in 16:13.85. Britain's Melverton Kiah took the bronze in 16:21.39.
In the women's 100m breaststroke, Japan's Matsushima Mina chased from behind to beat American King Lillia to take the gold with a result of 1:06.76, while Doyle Fiona of Italy placed third in 1:07.15.
Malone Reed and King Lillia celebrated a one-two finish in the men's 200m freestyle for the United States, and the bronze medal went to Hansford Jacob of Britain.
Prenot Joshua of the United States and James Justin of Australia both clocked in 1:58.38 to share the golds in the men's 200m individual medley, and Sunama Keita of Japan snatched the bronze in 1:58.45.
Vreeland Shannon added one more title for the United States by winning the women's 100m Freestyle in 54.39, and her teammate Weitzeil Abbigail took the silver in 54.53. Matsuo Ami of Australia settled for Bronze in 54.94.
In the final competition of the day, Lelliott Jay Steven won the men's 400m freestyle in 3:48.84, followed by Mcloughlin Jack of Australia in 3:48.88. American Reed placed third in 3:50.13.
