CAIRO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The Cairo-based Arab League (AL) denounced on Sunday what it described as the "prejudiced campaign" against the rightfulness of Qatar to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The AL reaffirmed in a statement "its support for Qatar's hosting of such an important sports event as the first Arab state to organize such an international event."
The pan-Arab organization also expressed support for the positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in their denial of the anti-Qatar campaign regarding hosting the 2022 worldwide soccer event.
Qatar is currently facing risks of being stripped of hosting the 2022 World Cup as a former FIFA executive admitted an illicit vote-swapping deal in favor of the Gulf country, yet the FIFA investigation did not find "conclusive evidence" for the claims.
The country has also been facing criticism over alleged inhumane conditions provided for labors working in the constructions and developments of the country's stadiums in preparation for the tournament.
