WASHINGTON, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The NBA made the announcement Thursday that Minnesota Timberwolves' Andrew Wiggins was awarded the 2014-15 NBA Rookie of the Year.

Wiggins, 20, averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 rebounds while playing all 82 games in his first season. He also got 4.6 rebounds and 1.05 steals, both top-10 marks among rookies. Wiggins became the first Canadian-born winner of the award and the first player in the Timberwolves' 26-year history to earn the honor.

Wiggins received 110 first-place votes and 604 total points in the voting. Chicago's Nikola Mirotic finished second and Philadelphia's Nerlens Noel ranked third.

Wiggins was drafted No. 1 by the Cavaliers last summer and come to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the trade that sent Kevin Love to Cleveland.
