LISBON, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Sporting beat Gil Vicente 2-0 on Sunday night in the 22nd round of the Portuguese league at the Jose Alvalade Stadium in Portuguese capital Lisbon.

Japanese forward Junya Tanaka opened the scoring in the 52nd minute and Nani added another in the 69th.

Sporting dominated the match, though Gil Vicente missed a decisive scoring opportunity a minute before half-time through midfielder Diogo Viana, whose effort went wide.

Sporting remains third in the Portuguese league with 47 points and Gil Vicente stands 17th with 17 points.
