SHANGHAI, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai defeated Shandong 3-1 in a title showdown Tuesday evening to win the 2014-2015 China men's volleyball league for a record 11th time.
After winning Game 4 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, Shanghai claimed their first title since 2011-2012 season with an aggregate 3-1 in the best-of-five finals.
Shanghai dominated the first two sets with powerful blocks but Shandong refused to give up and their solid serves helped send the match to the fourth.
Each side gave their best in the fourth set, in which more experienced Shanghai only managed to pull off a 16-14 lead before winning 25-20.
Shanghai, with nine titles in a row from 2004-2012, dominated the regular season. Tuesday's victory was the team's 18th from their past 19 matches, including a 2-0 win over defending champions Beijing in the semifinals.
Shanghai head coach Shen Qiong also become the only person to have claimed the title as a coach as well as a player.
