BRATISLAVA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The first part of 27th Universiade in Slovakia ended on Sunday with Russian athletes demonstrating domination, abtaining another four medals.
Three of them came from the cross-country skiing competition, 30km free mass start. The gold went to Andray Larkov who won the race in one hour 16 minutes 20.1 seconds. The second place went to Raul Shakirzianov (+0.6) with Artem Nikolaev (+1.6) in third.
"The race was good. The sunshine and snow are also good. We spread our strength so that we could last till the end and I am very happy with the result. I focused on this race since it is my specialty and I am really happy that I won the gold medal," said Larkov.
Russian team, consisting of Evgeniy Klimov, Mikhail Maksimochkin and Ilmir Hazetdinov, won the last competition of this Universiade in ski jumps for men's teams with 723.2 points.
"We are happy with our result. We entered this race wanting to win and we succeeded," said Hazetdinov. Kanta Takanashi, Minato Mabuchi and Junshiro Kobayashi from Japan took home silver with 702.3 points.
Polish Andrzej Zapotoczny, Stanislaw Biela and Jakub Kot placed third with 680.3 points and earned their first medal at this Universiade.
The part of the Winter Universiade in Strbske Pleso and Osrblie was in the shadow of the Russian athletes, which got nearly 40 medals, including 14 golds. The Universiade will continue with next 42 events in Granada, Spain.
