SANTIAGO, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Colo Colo on Sunday defeated Universidad de Chile (U de Chile) 2-0 in the Super Classic soccer match of Chile's first division, local media reported.
With this victory, Colo Colo is only two points behind U de Chile for the title.
Both teams fought hard in the first half before some 38,000 spectators in Monumental Stadium in Santiago. However the deadlock wasn't broken until the 51st minute when Colo Colo forward Esteban Paredes opened scoring.
The goal caused anxiety and nervousness in U de Chile's players and even defender Jose Rojas was expelled at minute 58 after a fault against Colo Colo's Felipe Flores.
U de Chile's Benjamin Vidal replaced Patricio Rubio at minute 63 but he could not change the outcome as at minute 78, Colo Colo's Jean Beausejour scored the second goal.
With this win, Colo Colo is just two points behind U de Chile, who is still leader of the tournament despite being defeated for the first time.
