BERLIN, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro extends his spell at Bayern for one year, the German record champions confirmed on Tuesday.
"Claudio has once again proved how important he is for the team thanks to his goalscoring abilities. We are very pleased that we can continue cooperation," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rumenigge said.
The 35-year-old striker joined the German giants for a second spell in May 2012 scoring 16 goals in 37 appearances. The Peruvian striker already played from 2001 until 2007 for Bayern and scored 71 goals in 174 games. Pizarro is the most successful foreign top scorer in the Bundesliga history with 176 goals overall.
"I am very proud that I can play another year for Bayern. For me there is no better club in the world," Pizarro said, who will go into the ninth season with the Bavarians.
Bayern clinched the German domestic double this season but failed to defend their Champions League title as Real Madrid eliminated the German giants in the semi-final.
