MADRID, May 25 (Xinhua) -- SD Eibar became the first club to confirm their promotion to the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga on Sunday after the Basque outfit defeated local rivals 1-0 in their Ipurua Stadium.
That result, which came thanks to Jon Peleteiro goal, coupled with Murcia's failure to win at home to Zaragoza and Las Palmas' 3-2 home defeat at home to Recreativo Huelva in a game they had been winning 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining sees the Basques promoted to the Spanish top flight for the first time in their history.
Eibar is a town of just over 27,000 inhabitants between the cities of Bilbao and San Sebastian and the club's home ground has a capacity of just over 6,000.
Last season saw the side which is coached by former player, Gaizka Garitano win promotion from Spain's third tier (Segunda B) and this season the club has shown itself to be a remarkably tough but to crack despite having the lowest budget in the Spanish Second Division (Liga Adelante) of just 3 million euros.
Despite their success on the pitch, Eibar still have one hurdle to climb before they are assured of taking their place alongside sides such as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Spanish law decrees the club has to increase its capital by 1.7 million Euros by the end of the first week of August.
The club has launched a share issue to cover their problem and has so far sold around 38 percent of the total issue.
