HO CHI MINH CITY, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Japan crushed Vietnam 4-0 during their second game in Group A of the ongoing AFC Women' s Asian Cup 2014 here on Friday.
The world champion Japan showed off their superior performance over host Vietnam, but only scored their first goal in the 43rd minute of the game and wrapped it up with another three goals in the second half.
Host Vietnam started the game with good momentum thanks to their win 3-1 over Jordan in the opener on Wednesday, and they showed their firm resistance against the world-ranked team throughout the game, though in vain.
In their previous opener on Wednesday, Japan tied 2-2 against Australia, while Vietnam thrashed Jordan 3-1.
Earlier the same day, also in Group A, Australia beat Jordan 3-1.
The Asian Cup, held in Vietnam' s southern Ho Chi Minh City from May 14-25, is contested by eight teams divided into two groups. The top two teams of each group plus winner of the playoff game between two third-ranked teams will go to the Women's World Cup in Canada in 2015.
