LISBON, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Benfica routed Gil Vicente 5-0 at Luz Stadium in Portuguese capital Lisbon on Saturday to qualify for the Portuguese Cup quarterfinals, thanks to goals by Rodrigo, Lima and Markovic.
Rodrigo scored in the 3rd minute with a header following a one-two between Siqueira and Gaitan.
Benfica pressured Gil Vicente throughout the game and created three scoring opportunities before Serbian winger Lazar Markovic made it 2-0 in the 16th.
Rodrigo scored again in the 38th, ably assisted by Argentine midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, and Brazilian striker Lima doubled the score through a penalty after a fault by Paulinho against Maxi Pereira. Lima scored again in the 90th and closed the scoring.
Gil Vicente was disorganized and created few opportunities. Joao Vilela was close to scoring in the 26th minute but his effort went over goalkeeper Oblak's net.
The victory was comforting for Benfica which faces Porto on Jan. 12, while Gil Vicente has to catch up considerably before it returns to Luz Stadium.
