LISBON, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Porto thrashed Atletico 6-0 at Dragon Stadium in Portugal's second largest city of Porto in the north on Saturday, to qualify for the Portuguese Cup quarterfinals.
Silvestre Varela put his team ahead in the 24th minute with a powerful shot in between Atletico Felipe Leao's legs.
Defour made it 2-0 in the 37th minute with a right footed effort, before central defender Marinheiro scored an own goal after a tense cross by winger Varela two minutes after half time.
Varela scored again and doubled the lead in the 73rd with a header following a cross by Josue on the left flank.
Otamendi added a 5th goal in the 76th minute following a free kick by Josue and Kelvin capped the win in the 90th with his right foot.
Porto didn't reach the quarterfinals in two years with coach Vitor Pereira. Atletico is second last in the II league and is fighting to avoid falling even further behind.
