RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay international striker Diego Forlan could be set for a January move to Brazilian club Botafogo, according to local media reports.
The 34-year-old is currently contracted to Botafogo's Brazilian rivals Internacional but has been tempted by the lure of playing in next year's Copa Libertadores, Uol reported on Sunday.
Botafogo playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro, Forlan's Uruguay teammate, is understood to be key to the Rio club's bid for the former Manchester United forward.
"Lodeiro has contacted his friend and spoken very highly of Botafogo," the report said.
Botafogo qualified for the Copa Libertadores - South America's elite club competition - by finishing fourth in the 2013 Brazilian league standings.
Forlan has scored 22 goals from 44 appearances for Internacional since his July 2012 move from Inter Milan.
