BERLIN, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Clinical Sevilla scored two goals to defeat hapless Freiburg on the road in group H on Thursday.

Freiburg crashed out of the European competition as Sevilla downed Christian Streich's men 2-0, meanwhile the visitors finished the group stage atop the standings owing to the goals by Vicente Iborra and Raul Rusescu.

Freiburg seized the initiative from the kick-off against lurking visitors from Andalusia.

Yet the hosts lacked in penetration to threaten Sevilla's defence. Only Admir Mehmedi's free kick on target tested Sevilla's goalkeeper Javi Varas at the 26th minute.

Vladimir Darida nearly caught Varas on the hop when his cross plunked on the bar to surprise the goalkeeper. However, Sevilla cut a better figure in front of Freiburg's danger zone as Vicente Iborra tapped in a low square pass into the box by Diego Perotti at the 39th minute.

Gelson Fernandes had the golden chance to restore parity for Freiburg but he failed to make use of a deflected clearance with only Varas to beat from 10 meters. Thus, clinical Sevilla put the game beyond doubt in the stoppage time when Raul Rusescu finished a fast break.

Sevilla lead group H followed by Liberec, Freiburg and Estoril.

"We wasted too many chances whereas Sevilla needed just one to smooth the way for the win," Freiburg coach Christian Streich said after the loss.
