KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Jakarta will host the Badminton World Championships in 2015, the sport's governing body said on Friday.

The Indonesian capital beat Kunshan, an eastern city in China, which hosted this year's edition, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) said in a statement. Indonesia last staged the sport's premier event in 1989.

"There is clearly significant experience among you in hosting events and in certain instances, specifically badminton events," said BWF President Poul-Erik Hxyer.

The BWF also announced that the southern Chinese city of Dongguan will host the 2015 Sudirman Cup, the mixed team world championships.
