BERLIN, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Former German football federation (DFB) president Theo Zwanziger tagged the decision to give the 2022 World Cup to Qatar with "one of the biggest mistakes ever made in sport."

Zwanziger, a member of football governing body FIFA's executive committee, told a discussion forum hosted by Zeit Online Tuesday evening that he could never understand the decision to award the tournament to Qatar.

FIFA has been criticised over the decision because the tournament may kick off in winter months to avoid the searing summer heat in the emirate.
