BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's teenager swimmer Shao Yiwen retained her World Cup title in the women's 400m freestyle Thursday when she won the only gold for China at the FINA short-course World Cup Beijing.
Shao took the lead after the first 200m and finished comfortablely ahead of New Zealand's Lauren Boyle in three minutes 58.92 seconds.
"Last year my time was over 4 minutes, so it's a breakthrough," said the 18-year-old about her performance.
"The first half wasn't quite good, I know my opponent is quite fast in the last 200m, so I speeded up my latter half.
"I felt a little bit of tired though, since I've been to the Singapore and the Japan leg," she added.
